THE IMPORTANT WORDS FROM OUR SLIDE SHOW

THE IMPORTANT WORDS FROM OUR SLIDE SHOW

Droughts happen when there is less rain than expected. This also means there is a shortage of water and not enough to meet the needs of people, plants and animals. However, droughts are a usual part of the climate and they can happen in most parts of the Earth.

Warm water in the Pacific Ocean doesn’t get close to Australia. The winds that blow it towards Australia are not as strong. This means there is less moist air and this will usually lead to less rain and storms.

1982-1983

This drought was short and it was caused by a very strong El NiƱo event. About half of Australia had very low rainfall levels. Eastern and central Australia were most affected. The bush became very dry so this drought contributed to the bushfires in 1983 called Ash Wednesday.

1991-1995

Queensland experienced exceptionally low rainfall levels. About 40% of the state was declared to be in drought. Many farmers lost their crops and livestock. Unemployment became a problem as people in rural areas lost their jobs.

TSUNAMI

P1
In the past the maori people ate moa,moa is a big bird. When the tsunami came some so people migrated to safety when they came back and there was different food to eat like mud snails. When a tsunami is far away from New Zealand people will have more time to get ot safety and get there stuff ready to migrate.

P2
So when the tsunami is a little bit far they have more time to get up the mountain with there stuff. When i learnt how tsunami happen i think about how big is the tsunami if it’s far away from New Zealand when i think about that i think that tsunami is very big but actually it will be kind of a normal wave.

One of the impacts are landslides. Landslides are when dirt detaches to the soil and falls down. It could break a building and hurt someone like someone can get bared in the dirt by it.
Another one is liquefaction. Liquefaction is crooked soil when the soil is crooked it makes the the buildings and cities to falls down and break and people might be in there and might get hurt.
